“We started as neighbours. Now we are colleagues. The street we live on has become a small studio.”
Phalodi is a small town in western Rajasthan, further from Ajmer than most of Darji's other units. The women here came to Darji not through a recruitment drive but through word of mouth — one woman told another, who told two more, until a small stitching group formed organically in the neighbourhood.
They work together from home, passing work between houses on the same street. The coordination happens informally — over chai, between errands, the way things get done in a close community.
Team Phalodi currently handles a portion of Darji's casual and bag production. What makes this unit different is not just the output but how it formed — entirely on its own terms, in its own place, on its own schedule.
