Rekha has been stitching since she was a teenager, learning from her mother the way most women in her family did — watching, then doing. She joined Darji a few years ago when a neighbour told her the studio was looking for embroidery workers nearby.
She works on small batches at home, fitting stitching around her day. Tote bags are her specialty — she says the open canvas lets her decide the design herself, which she enjoys more than following a fixed pattern.
She does not describe what she does as a job. She calls it her time.
